Banyan Woods
Real Estate in Naples, Florida

The first thing that catches one’s eyes when entering the grounds of Banyan Woods is not a clubhouse, or a golf course or a sales office. It is a large banyan tree sitting in the inner circle of a roundabout that leads to the north and south ends of Rustic Oaks Circle, the main street of Banyan Woods.

While palms are the first type of tree that comes to mind when most people think of the Naples, Florida area, the banyan tree probably has a more distinguished history. Like many Naples residents, the banyan tree is not native to Florida. In fact, the first banyan tree in the continental United States was imported and planted less than an hour’s drive north of Banyan Woods by none other than Thomas Alva Edison. It was only four feet tall when he planted it. Today it covers an entire acre on the grounds of his estate in Ft. Myers.

Beyond the entrance and the banyan tree lies the community of Banyan Woods, 48 acres of lush, tropical grasses and trees, including oaks, palms and, of course, banyans. The gated and guarded community, opened in 1997, is comprised exclusively of 100 single-family home surrounding a six-acre lake and 88 upscale coach homes encircling a second lake.
